About the National Campaign for a Fluoridation-Free NZ

The National Campaign to ban the practice of fluoridation and declare New Zealand a Fluoridation-Free Zone was founded by Fluoride Action Nework New Zealand and Health Freedom New Zealand. The campaign has subsequently been joined by numerous other organisations including Safe Food, Weston Price Foundation, Soil and Health (Organic NZ publishers) and the Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. In light of the latest damning evidence that fluoridation (far from having any benefits) is actually harmful, more than 2500 professional dentists, doctors and scientists are now calling for a worldwide ban on fluoridation.

Position Statements from Members of the New Zealand Coalition

Fluoride Action Network New Zealand (FANNZ)

Fluoride Action Network New Zealand was founded in 2003 when Paul Connett from the US, and founder of the international Fluoride Action Network, was touring New Zealand. Since then we have been lobbying our local councils and striving to get as many New Zealanders informed about fluoridation as possible. In 2006 FANNZ member Don Church, was able to get fluoridation stopped in Ashburton after 43 years. Other FANNZ members have been able to keep fluoridaiton out of the West Coast and various other areas of New Zealand. Our web site was set up to give people in New Zealand the information, tools and support for stopping fluoridation.

Position statement:

Fluoridation is one of the biggest medical frauds in history. It is unscientific, medically unsound, ineffective, unsafe, and unethical mass medication. You do not promote good health by drinking toxic waste every day of your life.

Health Freedom New Zealand NZ (HFNZ)

The practice of using our water supply to deliver medication in the hope that it prevents tooth decay, is unethical and immoral. It is born of a theory that systemic artificial fluoride would strengthen teeth and this has since been proven to be false. Society accepted the practice as a measure of social justice where we were all taking the medication to help the poorer communities keep their teeth healthy. Ironically, in light of new evidence that fluoridation is a significant health hazard, it is the poorer communities with less access to healthy lifestyles that bear the greatest risk of exposure to fluoride. It's time this social experiment ceased. Educating the public as to the benefits of good nutrition, supplementation, dental higeine and overall healthy lifestyle choices is a much more cost effective public health policy when you weight up the far reaching costs on the public healthcare system and taxpayers. Health Freedom New Zealand call for an immediate ban of fluoridation.

Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology

Position statement:

NZAOMT and parent International Body IAOMT is opposed to fluoridation of water supplies. Risks of harm exist and benefits are not proven. In fact large scale studies repeatedly show no benefit to teeth from this failed practice.

Safe Food Campaign

Soil and Health Association (Publishers of Organic NZ)

Weston A Price Foundation

Position statement:

The Wellington Chapter of the Weston A Price Foundation strongly opposes water fluoridation and wants to see a clean uncontaminated water supply available in Wellington and throughout all of New Zealand.

NZ Health Trust

Organisations Supporting the Coalition's Call for an End to Fluoridation

Koanga Institute

Position statement:

The main basis for health is nutrient dense food, exercise and lack of stress. (healthy teeth is no exception) The constant belief that we can address symptoms of ill health (whether it be tooth decay, or a hundred other symptoms of 'disease') with selective chemicals or pharmaceuticals means we take our 'eye off the ball'. The Koanga Institute believes sustainable health requires a wholistic approach to supporting the body's needs. It opposes the use of sodium fluoride (or similar compounds) in water supplies as being short sighted and harmful.

GE Free NZ

Position statement:

GE Free NZ endorses the Fluoride Action Network NZ concerns over the need for precaution and individual choice versus mass-dosing of the public water supply.
