WelcomeThe Coalition to Ban Water Fluoridation is a growing group of New Zealand organisations calling for a ban on water fluoridation in light of new science surrounding the practice. The coalition was formed by the Fluoride Action Network and Health Freedom New Zealand; it now includes the Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, Soil and Health Association and Physicians and Scientists for Global Responsibility. Our call for a ban is also supported by an increasing list of 2,500 medical professionals campaigning about the dangers of water fluoridation and calling for urgent end to the practice worldwide. Many of these professionals have reversed their pro-fluoridation position after examining both the original data used to support fluoridation policy and the latest research that links fluoride to dental fluorosis, lower IQ, hip fractures, thyroid disorders and type of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma.
Currently in New Zealand approximately 29 councils have some fluoridation scheme and 46 do not. Five percent of the world population is fluoridated of which over 50% live in North America; 99% of western continental Europe is not fluoridated for a variety of reasons. Many of these countries cite health, legal (civil liberties), and environmental concerns for rejecting, banning, or discontinuing artificial fluoridation. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) data there is no significant difference in tooth decay rates in non-fluoridated verus fuoridated areas, yet politicians and public officials insist on continuing with fluoridation at great cost to individual health, well being, civil liberties and personal sovereignty. The 2,500 reputable professionals includes a Nobel Laureate plus the current President (and six past Presidents) of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. These are well qualified, experienced and knowledgeable professionals who are alarmed at what they have found, their statement can be viewed here and the professional petition can be viewed here. The Coalition for a Fluoridation-Free New Zealand objects to fluoridation of water for many reasons, those listed below are sufficient to urge public officials to review fluoridation health policy.
1. New science proves there is no benefit from swallowing fluoride, and it creates more health problems than it is alleged to fix.
2. Fluoridated water is particularly harmful to infants.
3. Fluoridation is an expensive public health cost.
4. Fluoridation is the unethical practice of enforced medication which breach individual civil liberties.
5. Fluoridation impacts negatively on the environment.
