Fluoridated water can cause a 300% increase in lead toxicity, and children under 3 are at greatest risk, according to research just published. To make things worse, fluoridation chemicals used in our water supplies are themselves contaminated with lead! Even a low level of lead exposure can cause intellectual impairment. It also increases violent behaviour – a US study showed violent crime has increased 56% more rapidly in fluoridated communities than unfluoridated ones.
The latest laboratory study confirms population studies published in 1999 and 2007. “This is exactly the evidence of risk fluoridation pushers like the Ministry of Health have insisted on during past denials – population and laboratory studies supporting each other” points out Mark Atkin of Fluoride Action Network (NZ) and the Fluoridation-free NZ Coalition, “but no doubt they will come up with some lame excuse to continue ignore this – never let the facts stand in the way of unsound policy!” Children between 1 and 3 years old have a higher than average exposure to lead, and the developing brain is most susceptible to neurological toxins like lead (and fluoride). “So again we see the importance of warnings issued in 2006 that bottle fed infants should not have their formula made up with fluoridated water, and children up to 3 should not be given fluoridated waters” advises Mr Atkin, adding “Again, warnings the Ministry of Health continues to deny in spite of being in our own Food Safety Standards documentation.” The lab rats in the research had blood-fluoride levels in the range observed in humans, and were exposed to relatively low levels of lead. The researchers were careful to use levels that could be realistically translated into risks in humans. |
