How to Get StartedRaising Local Awareness of Fluoridation Issues Request a meeting with the Mayor. Residents are entitled to meet their mayor and will usually be given half an hour. If anyone would like support to do that, arranging for someone knowledgeable from their area to accompany them should not be too difficult. It is also better if you can get one or two others to come with you. It lets the mayor know it isn’t just you, and you get some moral support. Please remember to present facts and not get overly emotional! Email or ring your local councillors and/or community board members and request that fluoridation be put on the Agenda of an upcoming meeting. The infant/formula warning is a very compelling reason for councillors to listen. If the American Dental Association and the US Public Health Service’s Centers For Disease Control are warning parents not to give fluoridated tap water to babies, then surely that has to be something these councillors cannot ignore. You can tell them that Hutt City Council has posted this warning on their web site, AND provided a link to FANNZ web site for those seeking further information. Write to your local newspaper. According to an ex-Councillor, ALL Councillors read the letters to the editor in their local newspapers. And the CEOs of the councils read the letters to the editor in all the major newspapers as well. If you belong to a group such as Rotary, Lions, a garden group or a political organisation – request they host a presentation from FANNZ or screen one of the DVDs. Distribute flyers. FANNZ has a good supply of flyers that are available for free upon request. Sign the international online petition at www.fluorideaction.net. If you are a professional you can also sign the Professionals petition at this same site. Send updates to FANNZ so they can update the web site with what’s happening in your part of the country. Get in touch with other members. We can send you contact details to others in your area if you ask us, but we cannot send you theirs due to privacy law. Your support is important! It’s vitally important we are able to contact our supporters. Networking amongst ourselves enables us to stay informed with areas all around NZ and abroad. Anyone and everyone can help stop water fluoridation. By donating time, money, or resources you help New Zealand people become informed about the dangers of fluoridation. Even if you think you have nothing to offer, sometimes just talking about your fluoride concerns with others can help. BanFluoride.org.nz will be sending out regular email updates for those with internet access, keep your details up to date of any changes to email addresses to insure you receive your newsletters. |
